The White House grounds are home to many historic trees, some of which were planted by former presidents. Here are a few examples:
The Jackson Magnolia – This tree was planted by President Andrew Jackson in memory of his wife Rachel. It stood on the south lawn of the White House for nearly 200 years before being removed in 2018 due to safety concerns. A cutting from the tree was replanted in the same location in 2020.
The Eisenhower Oak – This tree was planted by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1959. It stands on the northeast side of the White House and is estimated to be over 120 years old.
The Kennedy Magnolia – This tree was planted by Jacqueline Kennedy in 1962 as a memorial to her husband, President John F. Kennedy. It stands on the west side of the White House and is estimated to be over 100 years old.
The Trump Tree – In 2018, President Donald Trump planted a sapling from a French oak tree on the White House lawn. The tree was a gift from French President Emmanuel Macron.
